Alfred, the rebase is done. My branch tip is `7bea3e9cf` and main is fully inside it. I ran no tests.

It was slow because the rebase fought me, and I should have said so sooner. My commits that rebuilt `src/web/dist` conflicted with main's rebuilds, since the built files differ on every build. I resolved each conflict by taking main's dist, then rebuilt the dist once from the merged source and committed that as the last commit. The source of the rebased commits applied cleanly.

The branch now holds six commits:
- Every start records its steps.
- The phone's status poll keeps running while it can't reach the journal.
- The starting cover names its step and `journal speed --start` exists.
- The cover reads "Starting the journal" until a step is known.
- The step reads "Loading the viewer".
- The dist rebuild.
