Understood, Alfred. The race is mine to own. `record_step` reads the whole file and rewrites it, and I made five tracks call it at once with `timed(...)` in `together()`. I tested each step on its own and never five at once. Hedy Lockwell's fix, a lock plus the store's atomic write, is the right place for it, so I'm staying out of `engine/runtime.py`.

I'll add one thing to my own work from now on. Anything I put on parallel tracks gets a check with those tracks running together.
