**What:** on phone widths, hide the sidebar/navigation behind a toggle instead of showing it open alongside the content.

**Why:** an always-open sidebar leaves little to no room for content on a phone screen and forces sideways scrolling.

**Touches:** the app's navigation/sidebar component and its CSS, and the toggle control that opens/closes it.

**Done when:** on a phone, the navigation is reached through a toggle, opens over the content without pushing it off-screen, and closes after a choice is made.

**Risk:** a badly placed toggle could be missed by users; place it where the collapsed top bar's menu also lives.
